Campomarino sand dune

The Campomarino sand dune stretches for about six kilometres towards west along the coast and it is included in the Sites of Community Importance (SCI) of “NATURA 2000”. In the past it was covered by coastal maquis and junipers also grown with an arboreal shape. The vegetation is characterized by prickly and phoenicea juniper shrubs and by thymus and helichrysum garrigue in the most degraded areas. This dune is also very interesting for the vegetation of the cliffs rising steep above the sea. Among the many species are the limonium virgatum and the samphire.
